System shock 3 looks scary1/20/2024 ![]() ![]() The Dev team's goal was to make "survival horror in space," which they thought hadn't been really done.Think Res Evil or Silent Hill, In Spaaaaaaaace! - View image here: -I think the similarities derive heavily from the fact that survival horror in space has been done, and it was called System Shock 2. Well, not quite, but "found artifact brainwashes crew into taking it on board and bad things happen, one guy left in the end to be the protagonist" is pretty close. That being said, the game looks like it could be pretty cool. The comic (assuming it's the same one you can download from the PS3 store) looks to be a near-direct ripoff of the System Shock 2 plot, however. The look of the game is very Event Horizon. Is SS3 actually in development, or has SHODAN been powered down for good?EDIT: The latest dev commentary linked to in the Videos section gives a good feel for the combat and atmosphere. Plus, the games' producer has a funnier name than Ken Levine. Plus EA's been on a 'quality new franchises' kick lately, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt till E3. Dead Space's been known for a while, but this is the first time I got the SS vibe from a preview for it. EA is even promising an upgrade system more involved than Bioshock's SS2-Lite upgrade system. The combat system is much more modern however albeit in 3rd person (to accomodate consoles no doubt the combat still feels clunky however strengthening the SS3 feel though that's really caused by that horrible aiming device known as the analog stick). ![]() ![]() Some of them are converting the ship's environment, much like the Many aboard the Rickenbacker. View image here: - (shades of the Midwife?) The videos show abandoned areas much like SS and Bioshock and only a few enemies at a time. IGN has put up a preview of Dead Space, and it sounds startlingly like a System Shock game. You're a lone worker in a 'dead' spaceship a spaceship now crawling with mutated versions of the crew members amongst other disturbing enemies like a preganent mutant called the Pregnant that uses babies bursting from it's belly as ammo. There was talk around the time Bioshock was going through the PR machine, that EA had begun work on System Shock 3. ![]()
